Figs Wrapped in Prosciutto

Figaro, Figaro, Figaro! With summertime in full swing you will start to notice figs popping up in supermarkets and famers markets. Now I haven’t had a lot of experience with cooking or eating figs so I “Fig-ured” I would give it a shot. My only time eating figs before were in the form of a Fig Newton…or a box of them.

 Fresh figs are available from June to September whereas the dried figs are year-round.  When eaten raw they have a slightly sweet center, chewy outside and small crunchy seeds in the middle.  I love them when they are super cold so put them in the fridge for 30 minutes or so before eating. {Learn about figs here}

Now onto wrapping them in meat and putting some goat cheese on them.  When wrapped in delicious salty prosciutto and topped with tangy, creamy goat cheese this is a combination that is hard to beat. This is a very simple recipe and can be made in advance and they hold up well in the fridge.

  • Figs, I bought a small carton of Black Mission Figs for around $5
  • Fresh sliced Prosciutto – I bought about 1/4lb and had more than enough
  • Goat Cheese – enough to put a 1/2 teaspoon on each fig

  1. cut stem off of figs and slice in half, lengthwise
  2. place goat cheese on center of fig
  3. wrap in prosciutto
  4. Enjoy!
